Lady Gaga Comes Under Fire For "Princess Die" Lyrics

Lady Gaga debuted the melancholy piano ballad ‘Princess Die‘ at the Melbourne stop of the Born This Way Ball  tour, which may or may not appear on her next album. The song, whose lyrics are laced with double entendre about the late Princess Diana, who perished in a 1997 car accident in Paris, has already come under fire. Apparently, the references to suicide and to Diana are too much for some to handle.

The song’s lyrics reference taking pills and leaving a note, and the paparazzi swarming after being proposed to. Some of the words seem to be lifted from the final days of Princess Di, who died in a car accident with her boyfriend after being chased by photographers into a tunnel.

Sample lyrics: “I wish that I would go / In my rich boyfriend’s limo / Right after he proposed / With a 16-carat stone wrapped in rose gold / With the paparazzi all swarming around.” She also sings about a dead blonde. Di, of course, was a famous blonde.

Now Monsters and Critics reports that suicide organizations in Australia have criticized the song and are displeased about the message that it sends to little monsters.

Chris Wagner, communications director for Lifeline, said: “We understand artistic license and we get artistic expression, but celebrities need to recognize that they’re role models for young people in the community.”

The Daily Mail also reports that Diana fans – and there are many of those, as she was once the most beloved and photographed woman in the world — are also not happy with the song.

We will say this. Gaga is an artist and her lyrics have double meanings in them. She is also incredibly conscious about her sphere of influence on the youth and her little monsters. It is a role she does not take lightly. We also highly doubt that she meant any disrespect and that she is eulogizing Diana in the best way she knows how – through a song. Gaga is not the type to skirt controversy, either, so we don’t think she will change her song.

Oh, and speaking of skirts (sort of), Ma Monster stepped out in Melbourne wearing a padlocked collar. We guess she was in an S&M fashion mood, as she wore a thick black collar around her neck, with a gold lock and a cleavage-revealing bra.

Lady Gaga Announces Born This Way Foundation Launch

Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation will launch February 29 with a fete at Harvard University, the singer and her mother and co-founder, Cynthia Germanotta, announced in a statement on Thursday (January 19). BTWF was created to promote youth empowerment and equality by encouraging self-confidence and well-being and bringing bullying to an end.
Joining the pop star at Sanders Theatre will be her partners in the endeavor: Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, the MacArthur Foundation and the California Endowment.
Gaga has long been a staunch supporter of anti-bullying legislation, reportedly meeting with President Obama to discuss the topic in September and visiting the White House in early December to discuss the issue with administration officials. She dedicated her performance of "Hair" at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas to Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old fan who took his own life after years of anti-gay harassment. And last year, Gaga toppedDoSomething.org's list of the most charitable celebrities, in part for her work on behalf of gay rights causes.
"My daughter's foundation was born out of her passion to create a better world where people are kinder and nicer to one another and are accepted for who they are, regardless of how different they may be," Germanotta said. "She has experienced many of the struggles that our youth encounter today, and identifies with the lasting effects they can have without proper support. Together, we look forward to creating a new movement that will engage and empower youth and accept them as valuable members of our society."The Mother Monster's commitment to the gay community was again recognized Thursday (January 19) with a nomination for Outstanding Music Artist at the GLAAD Media Awards. The awards recognize fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community across all media. In December, the diva was recognized with the Hero Award by the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that offers suicide-prevention services to LGBT youth.
During her acceptance speech at Trevor Project Live, Gaga touched on her wishes to someday make bullying a hate crime. "I hope that we can acknowledge all together that where this needs to begin is in the schools," Gaga said. "I want my fans and people all over the world to know that there's always somebody that's listening. But I want them to know they're listening before it gets too late."

Lady Gaga Is Forbes' Top-Earning Woman In Music

Apparently, Lady Gaga made a little bit of money this year: She tops Forbes' list of Top-Earning Women in Music in 2011.

Just how much did Gaga make this past year? According to the magazine, the singer netted $90 million thanks to sales of Born This Way, her massive Monster Ball Tour and a number of endorsement deals.

But she's not the only lady making bank this year. Coming in at #2 is Taylor Swift. The country/pop superstar managed to make $45 million over the past 12 months with the never-ending success of her Speak Now album (which she released back in 2010) and her tour of the same name.

Nipping at her heels is Katy Perry. The Billboard record-holder amassed $44 million with continued singles from 2010's Teenage Dream and her California Dreams Tour.

Perhaps the biggest surprise in the top five is Celine Dion. The Canadian singer comes in at #4 with $19 million in earnings. The singer's success is due in part to her Las Vegas stage show. Adele squeaked into the top five at #5 with $18 million, earned mostly from the album sales from her chart-dominating 21. Alicia Keys also makes the list; Forbes reports that the singer earned $10 million, beating out her hubby Swizz Beatz for the year by $3.5 million.

Forbes compiled the list using income earned from May 2010 through May 2011. It also used data from Pollstar and RIAA, as well as interviews with industry insiders and the musicians themselves.

Many of the ladies on this list also landed on MTV's Songs of the Year countdown; Gaga's "Born This Way" comes in at #5 and Perry's "Firework" sits at #10.

Lady Gaga gives a "White Christmas" concert in NYC

According to AP, it reports, Lady Gaga was in the Christmas spirit at Z100's annual Jingle Ball concert, but her version of "White Christmas" would have made Bing Crosby blush.

Gaga’s performance was slightly naughty rendition of the holiday classic on Friday night as part of her mini-concert at the radio station's event at Madison Square Garden. Gaga was sporting tight studded leather pants, matching top and a bare midriff which gyrated on a set that included antlers, Christmas trees and holiday lights as she performed "White Christmas."

"So I recently added a couple of lyrics to this song because I think it's too short. It's like when you really start to enjoy it it stops. It's like a really bad orgasm. Merry Christmas New York!" she shouted. Later, she made a suggestive pose as she gave a come hither coo to Santa.

However, her performance wasn't all rude because she was nostalgic and appreciative as she thanked the radio station for allowing her to be the headliner of this year's show, which included performances from Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, LMFAO, Pitbull, David Guetta, Foster the People, Hot Chelle Rae and more.

Gaga stated that her first concert as a young girl growing up in New York City was the Z100 Jingle Ball.

"I worked so hard and when I was 11 ... my mom got me tickets to Jingle Bell Ball," she said.

Gaga began the Jingle Ball concert three years ago, she said: "I'll never forget there were a whole lot of superstars and no one knew who the hell I was. ... Some people thought I was going to be a one-hit wonder."

She started with her performance by singing between several Christmas trees; later, she performed on a keytar shaped like a Christmas tree, and she ended the night dressed in a hospital gown, re-enacting the theme of her latest video, "Marry the Night."

"It's important to keep everybody safe in school," Gaga told the audience before launching into her inspirational anthem "Born This Way." She also told her fans that she was happy to be in New York City during the holidays. "This city gave birth to me and I will always come home," she said.

Lady Gaga, Bruce Springsteen Help Sting Celebrate His 60th

Most people turn 60 with a quiet party among friends or maybe a surprise bash put together on the DL by their spouses that features a hilarious slideshow or funny video. Not Sting. The former Police frontman and solo star plugged in and played with everyone from Lady Gaga to Mary J. Blige and Bruce Springsteen in celebration of his 60th birthday on Saturday night at the Beacon Theater in New York.

The event, a charity fundraiser for the anti-poverty group the Robin Hood Foundation, included Gaga on piano banging out a jazzy cover of the Police's "King of Pain," giving the sedate ballad the same kind of electric energy she brings to her own key-thumper "You and I," according to Rolling Stone. She traded lines with Sting on a stage packed with up to 20 musicians, including a string section and backup singers, who helped the eternally youthful singer work his way though his 30-plus-year catalog of hits.

Among the other highlights: Stevie Wonder doing a duet with Sting on "Fragile," will.i.am throwing a freestyle rap and bits of the BEP's "I Gotta Feelin' " into the Police's "Walking on the Moon," Billy Joel marking a rare return to the stage for renditions of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" and "Don't Stand So Close to Me," Rufus Wainwright singing "Wrapped Around Your Finger," and Sting teaming up with his son Joe for a moving rendition of the tune Sting wrote about his own relationship with his pops, "Why Should I Cry For You?"

One of the highlights of the evening was the mini-set with Springsteen, who waltzed out with his guitar to sing the sedate death-row ballad "I Hung My Head," which featured a raucous guitar solo. He also performed a solo version of "Fields of Gold" on 12-string guitar and harmonica, with one verse sung a cappella. Sting came out to sing "Can't Stand Losing You" with the Boss, with the two men leaning in to each other and howling the lyrics into the same microphone.

The night ended with the party's guests trading lines on "Every Breath You Take," with Gaga nodding to her piano icon, Joel, while singing the line "Can't you see/ You're the one for me." Sting closed out the show with a solo acoustic version of "Message in a Bottle," which was followed by wife Trudie Styler surprising him with a dozen bagpipers and a confetti drop that got the one-named rock icon misty. "Thank you a million times," he told the crowd as he and the missus danced together onstage.

Lady Gaga devastated

Pop superstar Lady Gaga has revealed that she was devastated by Amy Winehouse's death - so much so that she couldn't speak for 48 hours after she heard the tragic news.

Appearing on The View, the singer spoke of her grief, even though she never met the Back To Black singer.

She said, "I am just so devastated and so sad and I really could not speak for 48 hours straight I was in such shock."

Lady Gaga also expressed her deep sorrow on Twitter, writing, "Amy changed pop music forever, I remember knowing there was hope, and feeling not alone because of her. She lived jazz, she lived the blues."

Like Amy, Gaga is no stranger to drug-use, and has admitted to doing hard drugs in the past. But that's all behind her.

In an interview with Howard Stern last month, she took a hard line on drugs, telling the host, "I regret every line I ever did. So to all of the little sweethearts who are listening - don't ever touch it. It's the devil."
